PostSubject: Character stats + how to use the Dice   Sun Mar 26, 2017 4:29 am

Hello again! This guide will be as short and simple as possible. I'll explain you how to use the dice, how to battle another character and how to complete the stats for your character.

First things first, you are expected to go to the Character Center script topic and copy the code, from start to finish. Then, create a topic (or reply to an existing one) in the Center.

You'll see the following for human characters:

Code:
STATS

Strength: 0/10

Defense: 0/10

Stamina: 0/10

Intelligence: 0/10

Speed: 0/10

Total: 30

This is very simple. To avoid having an overpowered character, each stat is balanced with another. For example, if one character had a 10/10 in strength, they must have less speed, stamina or intelligence, depending on the user's preference. If a character has a 10/10 intelligence, they may have less stamina, strength or defense.

Defense and Speed are balanced with each other. A defensive character would block attacks while a speedy one would avoid them. Having both would make your character overpowered, because others wouldn't have a chance to attack you.

Stamina should be used with Speed or Strength; the more Stamina, the more hits your character can deal or the longer they can run.

Intelligence can be used either for attack or defense, but a 10/10 intelligence character must use their brains to get out of any situation. If they can't come up with anything, that means that stat is not true, and should be changed.

Let's return to the most basic question:

What is the dice?

Whenever you type a new post, you will see a few options at the bottom. One of them is the dice. Here you can select which dice to use, and how many times to roll it. To roll it more than once, you can press the '+' sign, but it's better if you didn't use it a lot.

If you can't see the option, click on the "preview" button below the reply box. If you still can't see it, it's possible it's because you're creating a new topic or you're editing your post. On these instances, the dice won't appear.

Where is the dice rolled, you may ask? Just as you post your reply, another will be attached with the number you got. The next user must reply to that number. This is the only instance where controlling another user's character is allowed. However, they must only control what they saw in the numbers, they can't add any dialogue or actions that aren't attacking or defending.

Now, let's say these two characters are fighting.

Character A:
Strength: 8/10
Defense: 3/10
Stamina: 10/10
Intelligence: 3/10
Speed: 6/10

Character B:
Strength: 2/10
Defense: 8/10
Stamina: 5/10
Intelligence: 10/10
Speed: 5/10

A attacks first, due to them being faster. If two characters have the same speed, use the speed dice. This dice has two faces, 1 and 2. The user who rolls the dice must pick one of these numbers and, depending on which it is, one of them will attack first.

After this was decided, the attacking user must roll the dice. They must, as well, RP their character's actions according to the site rules.

The dice then will give them a random number, from 1 to 40. This is the rough damage their attack will deal. Each attack will do +Strength, so the maximum damage A would do is 48 while B would do 42.

The defenses, though, will divide the amount of damage each character takes. This means A would take 14 damage, and B would take 6. Or roughly, you can just say A takes more damage than B.

It would seem B has a clear advantage over A, but here's the thing. B's stamina is lower than A's. This means that, each turn, their attacks will do less and less damage. At the end of the battle, B is exhausted, while A is feeling perfectly fine.

Of course, B now has the option to use their intelligence. However, bear in mind that exhaustion can make him think not as clearly, so the most reliable option here would be to run away or ask for forgiveness.

However, what if B decided to use their intelligence from the start? If this happens, it's a battle of wits. Of course, B would win, since he's clearly smarter than A. But what if their intelligence wasn't so different? Then you should use the Wits dice.

This dice will give you a random number from 1 to 10. You should roll it twice. First time, it's how effective your tricks will be. A higher number means a better trick. The second roll means how effective it is against your opponent. If it's a higher number, your opponent outsmarted you. If it's the same, the trick is nullified. And if it's lower, your trick worked. Make sure all RPers respond to this numbers accordingly.

In cat characters, you may have noticed a few differences.

Code:
Strength: 0/10

Defense: 0/10

Hunting: 0/10

Speed: 0/10

Cleverness: 0/10

Total: 30

However, these stats work just as with the human characters. Cleverness replaces Intelligence. Hunting, however, means how much food they're able to bring in the Clan, and how they would survive alone. A high speed skill goes well with high hunting.

That's all! If there are any issues with this system, please say so in this subforum. Lastly, Royal Residents have the privilege to not use the dice if they don't want to, as long as their posts match their character stats. I hope you found this guide helpful, see you around!
